Riverside, CA (June 18, 2013) The California Council for Excellence (CAPE) recently granted the Riverside County Workforce Development Centers the “2013 Prospector for Performance Excellence Award.”

The California Awards for Performance Excellence (CAPE) program exists to help California organizations continuously improve through a Baldrige based performance excellence program.  The CAPE program allows organizations to apply for state-level awards and to receive feedback about their current strengths and opportunities for improvement using nationally recognized criteria.  Administered through the California Council for Excellence (CCE), awards are granted at three levels (Challenge, Prospector and Eureka).

“While we take pride in receiving such a prestigious award, we take even greater pride in knowing that we have a dedicated staff who embrace the philosophy of continuous quality improvement and work diligently to provide the highest levels of customer service to our clients day after day and year after year,” said Jamil Dada, Workforce Investment Board Chair.

Each level requires a thorough self-assessment and application process with increasing complexity to explain not only what the organization does, but more importantly, how they do it and the results achieved.  The first level Challenge award is frequently sought by organizations that are relatively new to a performance improvement culture.  The second level Prospector award is typically the starting point for organizations that are well on their way to being a high performance organization.  Many use the feedback obtained from the application process to help them on their journey to apply for the Eureka which is California’s highest performance excellence award.

“I am extremely proud of my team,” said Felicia Flournoy, Director of Workforce Development.  “Receiving this distinguish award is a testament of their hard work and dedication to delivering quality workforce development services to our businesses, job seekers and youth.” “I look forward to formally accepting the award on their behalf at the California Council for Excellence’s 20th Annual Best Practices and Awards Conference held in March 2014.”
